Just say “Club Med,” and images of luxurious resort settings come to mind. Club Med is synonymous with premiere vacation, so why wouldn’t China want a few Club Meds to call its own? |
With the success of Club Med Yabuli in the Northeast Heilongjiang province which opened in December 2010, Club Med is looking to expand its presence in China by opening five locations before 2015. The first Club Med in China has been praised for its all-inclusive ski holiday and ski school in a breathtakingly beautiful setting. More than 10,000 vacationers visited Club Med Yabuli during its first year of operation, so that provedChina and Club Med were a perfect pairing.

The next Club Med in China, which is slated to open in August 2012, will be set in Southwest China’s Guilin and will feature a totally different ski vacation experience from Club Med Yabuli. With its lovely mountain scenery and interesting cultural |
entertainment, this newer Club Med will also offer taiji training, horse and bike riding through the mountains, and amazing golf. Currently a Relais& Chateaux site in southern China, this Club Med will be one hour by air from Hong Kong and about 45 minutes from the closest international airport.
This second Club Med resort in China will be geared toward families and will “pre-open” with 116 rooms in the main building and 46 rooms—mostly suites—in a chateaux. Later, in 2013, the resort will grow to more than 300 rooms, two swimming pools and a fitness spa, as well as offer mountain biking excursions into the beauty surrounding the resort. Also, this Club Med will offer childcare for children 2 years and older, as well as a conference center for business travelers.
 |
According to a press release issued by Club Med, its objective is to attract 5 to 10 percent of China’s potential 4-and 5-star resort customers by 2015. Industry experts project that China’s upscale resort clientele will quadruple over the next four years. If that’s |
true, Club Med could attract 200,000 Chinese clients in 2015, making China Club Med’s second largest market in the world. The next three Club Meds in China will be sunshine/beach-type resorts, appealing to the beach lovers living in China.
